Kelly (Expanded Duty Dental Assistant)
Kelly, our assistant, has been residing in Colorado since July 2014. She was originally born and raised in South Boston, Massachusetts (yes, she has the accent).
She moved a lot during her school years, having attended 11 schools out of 12. While in high school, she studied human and child development, with the idea of possibly being a teacher. Once graduated, she decided she wanted to pursue medical. Kelly joined the United States Army Reserve, training as both a combat medic and dental tech. When she returned home from the military, she taught preschool for a year, but ultimately decided dental was her true calling. She was able to find part time work with a dentist, who was also her captain at their army unit, the 399th Combat Support Hospital in Taunton, Massachusetts. She was then afforded the opportunity to work part time at her dentist friend’s oral surgery office. There she was able to utilize her EMT certification and administer iv sedation. On weekends she attended Boston University for her radiology certification.
She has been working as a dental assistant since 2000 and as expanded duty dental assistant since 2016. She has a deep expertise in a wide range of dental procedures, including general/cosmetic dentistry, orthodontics, endodontics, prosthodontics (removables), oral surgery and pediatric dentistry. She has been with The Family Dentist, assisting Dr. Smith, since December 2021.
Kelly has a passion for dentistry and providing top quality care. She maintains a patient focus approach with such care, compassion, gentleness and communication for a positive experience. Kelly enjoys developing relationships with her patients and has a knack for remembering their families, their trips, their professions, their triumphs and tribulations, even their favorite colors. She loves to keep our treasure box well stocked with prizes that she asks our young patients suggestions for.
She has recently been navigating the life of an empty nester. After raising her two (then) young children as a widowed mother, she recently helped her oldest, her son AJ, move to Ohio with his fiancée, Katie, dog Ember and three cats, Whiskey, Cinder and Ash. Her youngest, her daughter Adrianna, moved only a couple blocks away with her partner Alex and their dog Louie. She spends her time outside of the office helping at another office on her days off from here. As well as spending time with her fish Orion and doing weekly Saturday sleepovers with “her” Louie. You’ll find a diamond art photo of him in the operatory she works out of. She recently obtained her first passport and started traveling, having took four trips just this year alone. She’s looking forward to traveling more in the future, but jokes she needs a little vacation from vacationing and more mouths to help make healthy and beautiful.
